SciFunGames creates video games where science and entertainment meet, with Exographer, an adventure inspired by particle physics.

Description

SciFunGames is a young French video game studio born from the Science and Video Games Chair at École polytechnique, with a strong conviction: games are one of the best ways to discover and understand science, especially when you play first and foremost for fun. Our philosophy, "Science for all, fun above all", sums up this ambition: to design genuinely captivating video game experiences, in which scientific knowledge naturally enriches the worlds, mechanics and narrative.

Our team brings together people from the video game industry, artistic creation and the scientific world. It is notably led by Raphaël Granier de Cassagnac, a physicist, science fiction author and narrative specialist, alongside Thomas Vaulbert as art director and Tony Cottrel as technical director. This meeting of disciplines allows us to approach science not as a mere educational subject, but as a tremendous source of inspiration for inventing worlds and new ways to play.

This approach is embodied in Exographer, our first game, released in September 2024 on PC, Mac, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5 and Xbox. Imagined by Raphaël Granier de Cassagnac, Exographer is an exploration and puzzle game inspired by particle physics. Stranded on an unknown planetoid, the player explores the remains of a vanished civilization, acquires new powers and uses, among other things, a camera to reveal invisible particles and clues.

The adventure offers more than twenty levels spread across six different atmospheres, with a non-linear structure blending platforming, exploration and puzzles. Its pixel art universe is accompanied by an original soundtrack composed by Yann Van Der Cruyssen, also known for his work on Stray. The puzzles, meanwhile, draw on genuine scientific concepts, particularly around elementary particles and how accelerators work.

Beyond our own productions, we also put our expertise at the service of other players wishing to integrate science into their projects. World-building, designing or validating scientific elements: SciFunGames intends to create lasting bridges between research, culture and video games, without ever forgetting the essential: first and foremost, making people want to play.
