Awaceb is an independent video game development studio founded in 2016 by two childhood friends from New Caledonia, Phil Crifo and Thierry Boura. The name "Awaceb" comes from a New Caledonian slang term meaning "Everything's fine" or "No worries," reflecting our optimistic and laid-back philosophy.
Initially based in Bordeaux, France, our studio moved in 2022 to Mile End, the creative hub of Montreal, Quebec, Canada. This relocation allowed us to immerse ourselves in a dynamic and innovative environment, ideal for creating ambitious games.
Our mission is to develop open-world games focused on exploration and sandbox gameplay, emphasizing rich and culturally significant themes. We strive to deliver touching, humorous, and deeply human experiences by crafting fantastical worlds with polished visuals.
Our most recent project, Tchia, is an open-world adventure game inspired by New Caledonia. In Tchia, players can climb, glide, swim, and sail across a stunning archipelago in this physics-based sandbox. The game highlights Tchia's unique "soul-jumping" ability, allowing her to take control of any animal or object, as well as a fully playable ukulele. Tchia has been praised for its authentic representation of New Caledonian culture and won the "Games for Impact" Game Award in 2023.
